Thank you for all your comments and messages. Mendez had a huge impact not only on my trumpet playing, but on my life, and it's my pleasure to allow both old and new generations of musicians a chance to see the legend play again.
If you'd like to learn more about Rafael Mendez, I recommend the book "Magnificent Mendez." It's a remarkable read, detailing the life of the late, great Mendez.

This is a brief clip from the film A Holiday in Mexico featuring Rafael Mendez on trumpet. It starts off with a really great cadenza, and then Mendez takes us into the tune The Girl From Chihuahua. Too bad they didn't stay on Mendez for the entirety of the tune.

A short clip featuring the one and only Mendez playing Samba Gitana on the Milton Berle Show back in 1951. He's not in top form, but check out those dance moves!

Rafael Mendez was featured in a scene in the film Cowboy starring Glenn Ford and Jack Lemmon in 1958. In the scene, Mendez is sitting at the bar in a Mexican cantina playing El Gitano. It's a very beautiful rendition of El Gitano. Too bad he didn't get to play more in the movie.

The last installment of the Mendez trumpet series. A special treat, Mendez brings out his twin sons Ralph and Robert to play his Tre Mendez Polka.
Rafael Mendez - Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Aires)
Просмотров 442 тыс.17 лет назад
In this fourth installment of the Mendez Trumpet series, Mendez plays the virtuoso violin piece Zigeunerweisen. Mendez is in top form, which is pretty amazing considering how much he's already played and how out of breath he is from playing the Flight of the Bumble Bee in one breath just moments before. This piece showcases Mendez's brilliant lyrical abilities as well as his unrivaled technique...

In the third installment of the Rafael Mendez special entitled "The Trumpet," Mendez discusses his amazing finger dexterity and breath control, and then to illustrate these concepts he plays Flight of the Bumble Bee (with a super close-up on his fingers) and an excerpt from The Mexican Hat Dance (played entirely in one breath). Mendez is a tour de force on the trumpet. Anyone who is interested ...

In this second installment of the Rafael Mendez special entitled "The Trumpet," Mendez begins with discussing the origins of the trumpet and then plays an exceptional rendition of the third movement of the Haydn trumpet concerto. For those of you familiar with this piece it will be a breath of fresh air to hear Mendez's version. This was the first piece written for the keyed trumpet, and Haydn ...

Another great video of Rafael Mendez. This time an excerpt from his video special entitled "The Trumpet." This is the first song he plays on the special. I have the whole thing so I'll be uploading it all in parts.
Rafael Mendez - Jota Number 2
Просмотров 237 тыс.17 лет назад
Rafael Mendez is without a doubt the greatest trumpet player who ever lived. If you watch this video you'll see why. The effortlessness in which he goes through extraordinarily difficult passages is unbelievable. And while still playing majestically and musically keeps his performance from being nothing but technicality. In this video he is performing Jota #2 with the David Rose Orchestra. Ther...
Love this live stuff! TY for this!
Mexican PRIDE!
The combination of passion and practice creates professionalism
the Heifetz of trumpeters
I can see why he was a favorite cornetist of Pancho Villa.
Unbeatable
Mutes are for losers
How I respect Raphael's playing.! When I get to Heaven, I will ask him to teach me trumpet! Sincerely, John F. Phillips.
El mejor trompetista de todos los tiempos Rafael Méndez Arceo
Unique!
Никто даже и не приблизиться к Тимофею Докшицеру😏
Only a viola player would give him a thumbs down.
He looks so effortless.
Yikes.
“The Green Hornet”
My trumpet hero when I was a junior high/high school cornet player
Mendez is so mesmerizing that the conductor is looking at him at 7:24, and not the orchestra. What a spectacular ending.
Eminem’s been real quiet since this dropped. Can’t match that flow🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥
BRUH I PLAYED THIS AT 12
I've been listening to Rafael Mendez for over 50 years. I had the fortune to meet him twice. He is my musical hero!
I have been listening to this legendary trumpet player for over 50 years, was fortunate to attend one of his concerts in 1974, and met him twice. I have listened to his recordings thousands of times and am always amazed. There will never be another Rafael Mendez.
BRAVO!!!!👏👏👏
And he’s got some killer moves!!
Are u okay 🥺
Both sons went on to become respected physicians.
💕💖. 🔥🔥

Bravo
Increíble
Veramente un grande virtuoso!
Toca muito!
Beautiful!
I saw this guy in 1964 he was awesome!
Such a gifted musical virtuoso!
As a child Rafael played for Pancho Villa as a cornetist and so favored he was required to stay in the camp to play.
The first master trumpet player I was introduced to by my High Scool marching band director in the late 90s. All I can say is "THE ONE AND ONLY RAFAEL MENDEZ" 🙌🏾✨️👏🏾🔥🔥🎶🎺🎵👌🏾🎞⭐️
Until.... well until the neighbors complain 😂
One of the greatest of all time.
Where can I find more vintage videos of trumpet instruction like this?
I've persuaded myself that wealth can be measured in many ways. I don't have much money but I got to hear Rafael Mendez play his trumpet in person in the 1950s. I will be forever grateful. That was only one of the several ways music has enriched my life. How can a person consider himself poor who can say that?
Esa articulación está tan limpia, que se puede comer
Beautiful
I can play flight of the pterodactyl.
i was fortunate to have met and seen Rafael perform while I was in college. I still consider him to be a personal friend. There are many other great trumpet players, many also of my friends. but nobody else comes close to the expertise of the great Raphael Mendez.
The best trumpet player of all times….period
are the slurs just really fast or is the also touging the notes?
I was asking myself the same question!
Tonguing, he was amazing!
This guy's cold
Haydn, as performed by a bullfighter with a girl on each arm. OLE!
You have to be good to have a company want to make a trumpet with your name on it ~ Mendez teamed up with F.E. Olds company in Fullerton, CA early 1950s & helped design the F.E. Olds "Mendez" trumpet designed after his old (1930s?) French made F. Besson Brevete. Unfortunately, due to foreign competition & drop in demand for brass instruments, the Olds company folded in 1979. However, the Mendez model is still highly desired among many trumpet players. Price for used model proves this.
That s the top of the mountain but to climb this mountain you have to put hours and hours practise boring things like scales Long Tones. Then arban. After that you have to play slow every exercises or piece. And the Most of the time you want to play fast and high.So Patience have to be your best friend.Motivation is important too.But you don t need jt to play.Rafel is legend.
